The President, Ms. Nancy Ansah, honoured an invitation to The Gambia to participate in a forum on the participation of NGOs in the 50th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and People's Rights and the 24th African Human Rights Book Fair.SWAA Ghana HIV Clubs in Tertiary Institutions

The President Participates in the 50th Ordinary Session of the African Commission
Ms. Ansah joined the working group on HIV & AIDS and Human & Women’s rights to submit a roadmap as part of resolutions submitted to the 50th Ordinary Session from October 24-November 7, 2011. In 2010, the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights adopted Resolution 163 (XLVII) on the establishment of a committee on the protection of the rights of people living with HIV and those at Risk, Vulnerable to and affected by HIV.
Ms. Ansah also participated in a Colloquium on current challenges and future opportunities in the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa, the celebration of the Human rights day and the opening session of the 50th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights held in Sheraton Hotel, the Gambia. According the President, the trip was very successful and educative. “I realized that NGOs in Ghana need to work as part of the global whole to demand justice and effective leadership of their governments”, Ms. Ansah said. She hopes to leverage on the network she created from the programme to mobilize a untied voice for NGOs in Ghana.

The committee has been established to provide pertinent guidance on HIV, the law and human rights to the African Commission and state parties to the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights; thus placing the African Commission in a more advanced position to effectively execute its protective function in the context of HIV and AIDS in Africa.
